Besides having a passion for his industry, Ross also has one for his community. As a Lefcoe Leadership Graduate, Ross has been active in various community organizations including serving as a board member of Girls, Inc. and Churchland Swim Club among others where he had several leadership positions. He also served on the 2025 Comprehensive Plan Committee for the City of Portsmouth.

Ross was honored as the First Citizen of Portsmouth for 2017. Portsmouth’s First Citizens are individuals who embody the spirit of citizenship through service to the community. He is currently on the board of the Southeast Virginia Community Foundation, Hampton Roads Workforce Council and is a Director with The Portsmouth Partnership.

When Ross is not at work, he is an outdoor enthusiast. He can be found anywhere that has mountains, valleys and a river view. He spends most of his free time whitewater kayaking, whitewater rafting, hiking, and snowboarding. He feels grateful to have kayaked the Grand Canyon and to have taught troubled youth how to canoe as part of a last chance court ordered camp for youth. His greatest accomplishments are his two daughters, Savannah and Hayley and his wife of 18 years, Tara, to whom he married in October 1999.

Do you have pets? Yes, a very handsome dog named Humble. He is considered by our team to be Cherry Carpet & Flooring’s Chief Greeter and Smile Creator. You can find him most days hanging around the office getting treats and head pats from everyone.

Years of experience in Flooring Industry? I’ve been in the flooring industry the same amount of time. I previously had over 20 years’ experience in construction and government contracting, both of which have helped me tremendously in my current position here at Cherry Carpet & Flooring.

Where did you grow up? I was born and raised right here in Hampton Roads, Chesapeake to be exact.

Favorite book? My favorite book is Choosing To See - A Story of Struggle and Hope. Having lost my first child at birth, this book has been very therapeutic for me.

Hobbies outside of work? Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Tommy, and our twins, Hannah and Jake. My children are currently Seniors in High School, so I have spent most of the last 17 years enjoying watching them participate in the numerous extra-curricular activities they have been involved in. I also love relaxing on the beach and walking our golden retriever, Summer.

Tell us a cool fact most people don’t know about yourself: Pink is my signature color. I am a breast cancer survivor. My family, friends and co-workers have all shown me that no one fights alone and that losing is not an option!

Years of experience in Flooring Industry? My journey in the flooring industry started with Cherry Carpet in 1996. I started as a measurer and have held several roles within the company. I have been with Cherry Carpet in one form or another since then.

Where did you grow up? I’m a Portsmouth native and my family and I have settled in the Hampton Roads area.

Favorite book? My favorite book or series right now is The Dresden Files. I find myself listening to audiobooks and podcasts more than reading.

Hobbies outside of work? I enjoy anything that involves my family. I also enjoy building/repairing computers, gaming, and soccer.

Tell us a cool fact most people don’t know about yourself: I like to void electronics warranties, reverse engineer and tinker with anything electronic.

This is Humble Cherry, he is Cherry Carpet & Flooring’s Chief Greeter and Smile Creator. He accompanies Ross in the office weekly and always starts his day with a jaunt to each office to say hello and enjoy a snack...should you provide him with one. He just turned 2 in April of 2020, so he has a lot of energy! Sometime between noon and two, he'll remind you that it's play time and will want to wrestle to burn off some of that energy. If there happens to be no snacks and no time for playing, you can usually find him lounging on the cool tile surfaces around the office. He's still getting the hang of things and trying his best to fill the shoes of his big brother River, who we love and miss dearly, the original creator of this position within the company. Luckily River did a good job teaching him the position as we see Humble settling into it well. He would love for you to stop by so he can go to work doing his job at any time.

Hobbies outside of work? Outside of work I enjoy watching and playing sports…my teams are the Colts and the Red Sox. Golfing with friends and clients alike is another hobby.

Tell us a cool fact most people don’t know about yourself: Clueless on a cool fact. I met my husband at 16 and we are still happily married?? IDK I grew up on a farm. Write books but can never complete the ending.

There are a bunch of unique criteria that these projects have to abide by and I enjoy keeping up with the new flooring innovation that goes into these spaces.

Years of experience in Flooring Industry? I’ve been in the flooring industry for 3 years. I started in the flooring industry in California. When I moved to Virginia, I saw a job listing with Cherry…it was the first application I sent to potential employers and I landed the job.

Where did you grow up? I was born and raised in Austin, TX something not too many people can say these days with the influx of people moving there.

Favorite book? My favorite book is When the Wind Blows by James Patterson. A true page turner until the very end, which is exactly what I love about it.

Hobbies outside of work? Outside of work I’m usually working on a house project. I enjoy re-arranging my home weekly. Facebook Marketplace is my favorite place to browse for new finds to add to my weird, curated collection of home décor. My house is a mix of Downton Abbey meets Beetlejuice.

Tell us a cool fact most people don’t know about yourself: Among the décor items around my home are my two collections: velvet photo albums and kaleidoscopes. I should probably hide a price tag somewhere on them, so they aren’t eventually sold for what I told my wife I paid for them.

Tell us a cool fact most people don’t know about yourself: I have been to at least 15 different islands from the Caribbean, the Bahamas and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Years of experience in Flooring Industry? I have had many years in Customer Service prior to coming to work at CC&F. Even though I’m a new addition, I’ve learned so much already and have received so much joy in helping customers find the perfect fit for their home.

Where did you grow up? I was born and raised in Hampton Roads and I can’t see myself living anywhere else. I spent my childhood growing up in Chesapeake (Go Tigers!) then moved to Portsmouth in 2005.

Favorite book? I am a big fan of True Crime books, but you can also catch me with a feel-good book from time-to-time. As far as favorite, it’s impossible to just pick one!

Hobbies outside of work? You can usually find me travelling around the surrounding states when I find the time outside of work. I am a huge fan of big cities! I love learning about their culture, history and of course, trying all their delicious food! Charleston, SC was not only my honeymoon location but has been one of my favorites so far. If I’m not travelling, I like crafting and making miniature room scenes. I also love spending time with my husband, dog, family and friends.

Tell us a cool fact most people don’t know about yourself: I went to Culinary School for 2 years after High School. I have kept my passion for cooking but decided to keep it in my personal kitchen for now.

Tell us a cool fact most people don’t know about yourself: My knee was replaced with a cadaver's kneecap (I named him Neil). I have been an ordained minister for over 10 years and I lived in Korea when I was very young for 2 years.

Tell us a cool fact most people don’t know about yourself: I’ve travelled to Bangladesh 12 times. During one of my visits in 2000, I saw President Bill Clinton. It was the first time a US President had ever visited the country and the only time I have ever seen a US President in person.

I met Ross Cherry from working for my father installing flooring when I was young, so I’ve been in the flooring industry since I was old enough to work.

Favorite book? My favorite book is The Driver by Alex Roy.

Hobbies outside of work? Outside of work I enjoy camping, drag racing and hanging with my 2 kids…I have both a son and a daughter.

Tell us a cool fact most people don’t know about yourself: I’m a grill master and I make a killer rack of baby back ribs.

Years of experience in Flooring Industry? After graduation in 1997, I went to work with a friend of mine, his dad owned a flooring company where I started doing installations. I’ve been working in this industry in some form since then.

Where did you grow up? I grew up in Chesapeake, VA.

Favorite book? I’m not a big reader, in this industry of constantly changing flooring technology, I’m having to keep myself up to date with installation techniques when new flooring types come on the market. So, you can find me reading instruction manuals for the technical side of the installation jobs I do.

Hobbies outside of work? Outside of work I’m off-roading in my UTV in the mountains or hanging with my dog. I have a beautiful brindle pitbull, her name is Robin.

Tell us a cool fact most people don’t know about yourself: In 2013, my dog Reme qualified to compete in the World Premiere Dock Dogs aquatics competition, in Iowa. That was a fun experience and long road trip with him.
